Everything you need to know

When you're learning to drive, there are two important milestones on your journey:

📚 The Theory Test

🚗 The Practical Driving Test

📚 Theory Test

What is the Theory Test?

Before you can take your practical driving test, you'll need to pass your theory test.

It has two parts:

✔ Multiple Choice Questions

✔ Hazard Perception

Both parts must be passed during the same test.

How can I prepare?

There are lots of excellent ways to revise, my top 3:

Ideally this should be passed before we start lessons, or at least booked in.

When am I ready?

One of the questions I'm asked most often is:

"When should I book my driving test?"

The answer is simple...

We'll decide together.

When you're consistently driving safely and confidently, I'll recommend booking your test.

There's no pressure to rush—I'd much rather you take your test feeling prepared and confident.

What happens on the day?

Your practical test lasts around 40 minutes and includes:

✔ Eyesight check

✔ 'Show Me, Tell Me' vehicle safety questions

✔ General driving

✔ Independent driving

✔ One reverse manoeuvre

You may also be asked to perform an emergency stop.

Don't worry—we'll practise all of these before test day.
